BOOK 1 POST 1

Putting the Rabbit in the Hat Review

By: Brian Cox

I appreciated the humor Brain used throughout his personal narrative. Despite experiencing unimaginable tragedies, he still maintains a sense of humor. Humor is one of life’s greatest treasures and it really made me like Brain Cox as a person the deeper I got into the storyline. Calling out celebrities by name is a very bold move and so refreshing to hear! The unforgiving honesty and truth Brian paraded was so entertaining and raw. It made him personable and relatable. This blunt honesty is something that is not so common today given all the NDA’s, PR teams, and harsh restrictions that are placed on big celebrities from revealing secrets or revealing the secrets of others. Calling out other celebrities by name is a big no-no in Hollywood which is why Brain is commendable for doing so.

On a more serious note, seeing how someone found true joy and passion in something that they were able to create a majorly successful career out of is very inspiring. As a business student surrounded by classmates following the finance or consulting or more “boring” paths to success, this story resonated with me in the sense that investing time and effort into your passions doesn’t have to be a waste of time or a scary endeavor. His unwavering dedication to acting lit a fire inside of me to pursue my own less popular or mainstream dreams of creating my own pottery collection and turning it into a business. When you think of actors, you generally don’t think they are the most intelligent people simply because you do not think or at least I don’t think acting requires a higher level of intelligence but Brian Cox put this theory to rest. His book demonstrated his undeniable wit and intellect. It just goes to show that those who follow their passions no matter what they are might be hiding an extremely creative, funny, brilliant, and personable mind. Cox came from an incredibly hard background but rose above and found great success doing what he loves which is a great lesson as a college student getting ready to begin their career.
